MALVERN Post Office cribbage team travelled to Salisbury to take on last year's team champions Oxford, in this year's South Central/Wales/West Team Cribbage Competition.

Malvern defeated Reading in the quarter-finals and Cardiff in the semi-finals.

Things started fairly even between Malvern and Oxford and after the singles the score at 3-3, but with nine pairs games still to play the match was wide open. Malvern edged in front after the first three pairs making the score 5-4, Malvern went further in front after the next round of pairs leaving the score 7-5.

With only three pairs games left and Malvern needing only one more game for victory things were feeling a little bit more comfortable. It wasn't long before Malvern had sealed the victory and the final score was 9-6.

Malvern's Eddie Jones was awarded an inscribed glass tankard for having the best singles average throughout the competition. Clive Fairclough and Malcolm Fish were Malvern's heroes on the night, both players not only won their singles but were paired up together and won all their pairs games as well.
