EASTER Sunday saw a good turnout at Arden Sailing Club for the traditional egg races.

A very light wind meant a testing time for the crews who have become used to the recent strong winds.

In the first race Keith Stevens stole the line honours in his Comet from Niall Campbell and crew Jane Smee in their Enterprise having skilfully made the most of the slight breeze.

The second race promised a little more wind but this promise was not realised and all of the contestants struggled to find the elusive puffs. Stevens could only manage a third place while Campbell took first. Eric Ison in his Laser achieved second place having taken only fourth in the first race.

At the start of the third race the overall positions were finely balanced and the day's competition could go to a Comet, Enterprise, Laser or Solo.

Decisively, Campbell and Smee in the Enterprise kept their earlier form to win the race and the day with Alan Salerman taking second place in the race. A third place for Stevens assured him of second place overall.

Ison's fourth place in the first race proved enough to gain him third place for the day.

Club members are now preparing to welcome anyone who would like to try sailing to an open day at the Defford club on Sunday from 11am.
