THE House of Commons' Transport Select Committee is set to visit Malvern.

The committee, chaired by Labour MP Gwyneth Dunwoody, will be taking a look at the Cotswold line, which links Hereford to London Paddington, next Wednesday and Thursday, April 21 and 22.

The visit follows an adjournment debate in Parliament last month, called by West Worcestershire MP Sir Michael Spicer.

The committee is making an inquiry into rural railways and intends to visit a number of different lines across the country.

It will stop off at Great Malvern railway station, although the time and date of the visit is not yet known.

Sir Michael said: "I'm delighted my debate on train services in Worcestershire has resulted in a very powerful select committee deciding to make a visit to see the services for themselves.

"They will travel down on the Cotswold Line and will therefore see the problems of single tracking on the London route."

The parliamentary debate followed a public meeting organised by the Malvern Gazette & Ledbury Reporter as part of its its 'Not Getting There' campaign.
