Sir Michael Spicer has agreed to help Baughton residents tackle the problem of noise from the M5.

After a meeting with around 20 local people last week, the MP for West Worcestershire said he would be pressing the Highways Agency to take action.

The M5 was widened in 1992 and trees and shrubs were planted on the banking to block out noise. However, this has not been effective.

Sir Michael said: "You just have to stand in the village and you can hear the noise. It starts at about 3am and, except for about five hours a night, there's heavy noise the whole time.

"The other thing that's apparent is that the improvements made in 1992 are completely inadequate. The banking is on the wrong side of the road and far from protecting the village it creates a factor where the noise bounces back into the village."

Sir Michael said that an inexpensive solution would be to plant conifers along the affected area to block out the noise. He said he would be talking to the Highways Agency about this.
