A FRENCH restaurant has cooked up thousands of pounds to help build a new hospice in Worcester for life-limited children.

Over the last five years Dominique's, in Shatterford, near Kidderminster, has hosted a charity dinner and donated all the proceeds to Acorns Children's Hospice Trust.

The restaurant raised £1,725 at its last Acorns supper on Monday, March 29, bringing the total amount over the past five years to an impressive £6,725.

The money will go towards building a new hospice in Bath Road, near Worcester City centre, which will provide invaluable care and support for more than 250 children from Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire who are not expected to reach adulthood.

Restaurant owner, Dominique Saley, decided to support Acorns after visiting the charity's first hospice in Selly Oak, South Birmingham.

"Acorns is a special place for special children," he said. "The facilities and care on offer are superb and the new hospice in Worcester will mean that Acorns will be able to help many more local families."

Acorns is currently campaigning to raise the final £1.3m of the £4m it needs to complete the build of the new 10-bed hospice that will include a hydrotherapy pool, multi-sensory rooms, family rooms, and facilities for young children and teenagers.

The charity plans to complete the hospice in December this year and welcome families early next year.
