ROWING: Six Windmill Middle School pupils took their first rowing step on land in a Stourport Boat Club course.

They were presented with certificates by club captain Mark Betson after taking the six-week dry row coaching programme.

It was the first course run by coaches in partnership with the school as part of the National Junior Rowing Programme.

The Awards for All grant scheme funded the initiative which aims to give 12 to 14-year-olds a chance to row in a safe environment.

Most pupils will be offered the chance to progress to river rowing and it is hoped a new course will be run every half-term.

Stourport's Works Fours Regatta is set for June 19 and the entry date for work places, pubs, clubs, ladies and schools closes on Friday, May 21.
