MALVERN Town continued their quest for the Express and Star West Midlands Premier Division Championship with this last gasp victory against Wednesfield on Saturday.

MALVERN TOWN 2, WEDNESFIELD 0

With the gale force wind denying any hopes of cohesive football, Malvern still held the upper hand and Dean Roberts and Phil Preedy should have given Town a first-half lead.

At the start of the second period Lee Hooper missed a golden opportunity to put his side in front and a number of last ditch interventions continued to keep the visitors in the game.

But just as it looked as though Wednesfield looked likely to do their near neighbours Tipton a major favour, Phil Preedy and Roberts combined to set up substitute Scott Morris who fired the ball into the roof of the net to give his side an 82nd minute lead.

Just five minutes later Duncan Preedy broke well on the right, before pulling the ball back into the path of Rik Halion who replicated Morris's effort to give his side an unassailable two goal cushion.

Roberts almost extended Town's lead on the stroke of full time, but saw his effort rebound of the underside of the crossbar.

Although this was a slightly laboured display by Town, they still deserved this success on a day when the conditions held the upper hand.
