I NOTE the proliferation of road traffic signs providing masses of useless information on the city and county roads.

The latest example seen on the A44 was a sign courtesy of the Worcestershire County Council thanking me for my patience during the resurfacing work.

Having just received my council tax bill showing the percentage paid to the county, I was interested to find out how much the manufacture, erection and dismantling of this latest piece of nonsense has cost the ratepayer.

Imagine my surprise when informed by a Highways Manager that the signs were erected following a survey of their "customers".

So not only do we have money wasted on meaningless signs, they are put there from information gleaned following the expense of a survey.

I have asked for a breakdown of the cost of all this waste to be provided and this will be the subject of further correspondence.

PAUL CURTIS,

Worcester.
