ENGLAND continued their domination over Caribbean cricket with Worcestershire's Gareth Batty underlining their strength in depth by emerging from the sidelines to inspire an eight-wicket victory with his best performance at this level.

The off-spinner seized the opportunity in his first outing of the tour to claim 5-53 and complete another emphatic victory over West Indian opposition to add to England's two convincing Test victories.

His efforts helped dismiss the Carib Beer Xl, made up of a collection of emerging cricketers in the West Indies, for just 229 after they had conceded a 218-run first-innings deficit.

Despite the loss of two wickets, the tourists claimed the 12 runs needed for victory in only 2.4 overs shortly after tea on the final day.

The triumph continued a winning sequence stretching back to before the opening Test when they comfortably beat the Vice Chancellor's XI and will lift the already high spirits as England prepare for Thursday's third Test in Barbados.

"It's good to have an unbeaten record and to win convincingly as well," said stand-in captain Marcus Trescothick.

"With the wins in the warm-up games and the Test matches, we're really dominating in the Caribbean as it stands but we're not going to sit back and think about it - we're here to work hard and improve on the victories we've had.

"I was very pleased with our intensity. Our energy and our attitude in this match was great and it was nice to keep the momentum going - if we'd have faltered badly people would have spoken about why we didn't do well but we showed our true professionalism."

That particularly applied to Batty, who was the most under-used of all England's fringe players since their arrival a month ago and had not featured in any match until this three-day encounter.

Even in this game he was not required to bowl during their first innings when they were dismissed for 129 and then suffered a fourth ball duck as England claimed a considerable first inn-ings advantage.

But given his first lengthy bowl of the tour on the final day, Batty took his chance after striking in the 25th over of the morning session to end the determined innings of opener Daren Ganga, who has just been called into the West Indies squad for next week's third Test.
