IN Division One of the Brewin Dolphin Securities sponsored Malvern Table Tennis League last year's runners up Manor Park Cavaliers are this year's champions following their 10-0 win over Ledbury Lions.

It was their sixteenth straight win of the season. The game of the night was between Trevor Simmons and Dave Saer with Trevor coming back from 10-7 down in the fourth game to eventually win 15-13, 7-11, 5-11, 12-10. 11-9.

The real battle is on for second place with four teams still in the reckoning.

Two of these teams played each other this week with the result being a 5-5 draw between Manor Park Express and YMCA Magpies.

Mark Jones was again the lynch pin for Magpies winning his three singles while for Express Dave Woodyatt and Alan Salisbury both won twice and an important doubles win over Jones and Steve Humphrys 13-11 in the fourth game.

The other two teams in contention are Grosvenor Eagles and CSSC Ramblers who both have game in hand on the teams above them and have also got to play each other before the season's end.

At the other end of the table Manor Park Wombats won their first game of the season with victory over Manor Park Travellers 6-4.

In a ding-dong battle five of the sets went to a fifth game with Wombats eventually winning 6-4 by winning the final set of the evening after having had a 5-1 lead.

Tony Birch was the hero for Wombats having won his three singles which included victory over Bob Atyeo in the final set by a 5-11, 11-7, 13-11, 8-11, 11-3 score line.

He was ably assisted by Steve Glazzard who won twice and Richard Bennett once with both of them coming from two games down to beat both Atyeo and Ken Hipwell respectively.

RESULTS: Manor Park Cavaliers 10, Ledbury Lions 0; Manor Park Express 5, YMCA Magpies 5; Manor Park Travellers 4, Manor Park Wombats 6.

BILL Lucas was the only player for Abbeydowne to win a set in Division Three but six of the ten went to four games and one to a fifth.

Tony Hughes was Nomads best player with three singles and a share in the doubles win. Geoff Davies and Adrian Fray each won two.

Ralph Cook and Don James won a singles set each and the doubles for X-Police but Richard Cullis and Stan Ginn won all their sets for Crackpots C and Ed Palmer one.

Collette James and Viv Tolley won the doubles for Dynamos and Maulers turned up with only two players to give Dynamos a 4-6 result which could easily have been a draw as Collette had a five game set with Bill Smith.

Last week's third division table contained some incorrect figures, this has been corrected and the new table below is now correct.

RESULTS: X-Police 3, Crackpots C 4; CSSC Nomads 8, Abbeydowne 2; Dukes Way Dynamos 4, Manor Park Maulers 6.
