COLWALL secured the point they needed to guarantee second place in Severn Division Two with a 2-2 draw against league champions Hereford IIs at Ledbury Leisure Centre on Saturday.
COLWALL WHC 2, HEREFORD II 2
The teams looked evenly matched in the first half, with both sides showing some good attacking play.
Hereford took the lead, but Colwall fought back strongly, and Jen Shail and Nicky Forecast had shots on goal well-saved. Colwall equalised just before half time when Coral Handley hit a low, hard shot following a short corner.
Hereford again went ahead after the break, following a scramble in the Colwall goal mouth.
The home side came back with a well worked goal from Coral Handley who deflected Lucy Halligan's pass past the keeper. Hereford pressed for the win towards the end of the match, and only good defending prevented them from scoring in the closing seconds.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Colwall play touring side Bishop's Castle in a friendly at Ledbury Leisure Centre (noon start), and then complete their league campaign with a rearranged match away at Brockworth on April 3.
In the West County Champion-ships, Gloucestershire defeated Herefordshire 1-0 and Hereford-shire defeated Somerset 4-2 with all Herefordshire's goals scored by Karen Hackley, who plays for Leominster.
