SHOBDON trainer Steve Flook has long had a reputation for transforming horses of moderate ability.

He gave a further demonstration of his skills at the Ledbury Hunt point-to-point fixture yesterday when he saddled a double at the Maisemore Park course with wins for Beauchamp Oracle and Legend of Light.

Father Tom, partnered by Julian Pritchard, was an odds-on favourite to take the 20-runner Restricted Open race, but a crashing fall at the 11th fence, which aggravated Prit-chards' previously injured shoulder, ended his race and it was the Flook trained Beauchamp Oracle who quickened at the second last fence to record a five length win over outsider black Optimist.

Partnered by Reece Hughes, who is attached to the Madley yard of trainer Sue Johnson, Beauchamp Oracle could now progress to into Maiden Hunterchase engagements.

The double for the Flook yard was completed when David Mansell partnered Legend of Light to a hard fought success in a division of the older horse Maiden race with victory being sealed with a fine jump at the last fence to deprive runner-up Red Spark and Ed Walker.

The Mixed Open race attracted a large field of 16 runners and victory went to the Somerset trained Polar Flight, ridden by Alex Charles-Jones, while leading lady rider Polly Gundry continued in her seemingly unstoppable quest to retain the lady jockey's title with a double aboard Balinova in the opening Members race and the impressive Christy Beamish in the Intermediate race.

n Reigning champion jockey Rich-ard Burton had mixed fortunes at the Teme Valley Hunt fixture at Brampton Bryan with two odds-on favourite winners in Coole Venture and Jackson and another odds-on favourite in Fane Council running out when leading.

Fane Counsel, in the colours of owner Clive Hitchings, was leading in the opening Confined race when coming out of the back straight he ducked away and took the wrong course, leaving the race to eventual winner Caught At Dawn who followed up his recent Garnons win in the hands of Tim Weston.

Burton recovered his winning ways with the mount of Coole Venture in the Men's Open race who justified odds of 1/2 favourite but his two and a half win over outsider Lidefix was surpassed by the win of Jackson, from the livery yard of Andrew Dalton, who recovered from his unseating in a hunterchase last time out to record a smooth ten length win in the Restricted Open.

Another jockey to score a double was Jane Williams who took the competitive Intermediate race aboard Sapega and then 30 minutes later won the Ladies Open race on Step and Run.

Adrian Wintle returned from the leg injury sustained at the South Herefordshire Hunt meeting to take a division of the Maiden race aboard Jim Callow's Shaking Chief, while Emma James also won a division for Halesowen based owner Wendy Baylis on Primitive Son who caught long-time leader Kerry Zulu Warrior over the final two fences.
