WITH a gale blowing diagonally across the pitch, this game became a lottery with no advantage to either side whether kicking up or down wind.

PLUMBERS ARMS 1, WELLAND ATHLETIC 1

In many cases a stationary ball could only be kicked with the help of colleagues hand on top and a strong clearance was as likely to finish behind the defender as in front!

When Plumbers, against the wind, did manage to get into Welland's box for the first time James Forester's clearance was deemed to be unfair but the resulting penalty was struck against the post and cleared. However, on 20 minutes, Plumbers did finally score as the wind played its part. Neither goal keeper was seriously challenged until Welland, with Paul Edwards and Simon Craddock, now switched to midfield, the only players with space to control the ball, both outstanding.

Welland pressed and finally Tom Crump, weaving in the box, was brought down and Holland coolly slotted home the penalty to bring the scores level.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Welland, sponsored by Bio-Diagnostics from Upton, play Lamb and Flag at Pitchcroft, Worcester at 3pm.
