HEREFORDSHIRE'S new top police officer is calling for county residents to play their part in upholding the law.
Chief Supt Kevin Bentley today took over as head of West Mercia Police's Herefordshire division.
The 45-year-old, who is originally from Worcester, began his 26-year police career as a constable at Hereford police station before serving across the force area.
"I am pleased with the enormous support the division received from people in Herefordshire," said Chief Supt Bentley.
"However, the police alone cannot bring about sustainable improvements across the county.
"We are but one of a number of key agencies who, when working effectively, can bring about real change and Herefordshire an even safer place to live, work and visit.
"Above all, it is the community that has a vital role to play and I would encourage everyone to become actively involved in the policing of their local area."
