GROSVENOR Eagles advan-ced another step in their fight for second place in the Worcester Table Tennis League Division One with a 10-0 win against Players.

Although the visitors fought hard they were unable to win any events, only one going the distance when Helen Pogmore lost in the fifth to Bill Dawe.

Rowing Club maintained their second position after beating Jograkerama 10-0.

Most events were won in three straight games, only the doubles went to the fifth before Nick Mytton and Doug Payne beat Graham Brown and Geoff Collings.

In a very close match, Rainbow had their chances before going down 3-7 to Roamers. Wayne Chopping beat Chris Maiden 11-9 in the fifth and Trevor Simmons beat Chris Hewitt in three. The home side also won the doubles Mark Fiddian was in fine form, winning his three singles for the visitors. Roamers remain top of the division with a four point lead over Rowing Club.

TEAM HANDICAP KO

Pavilion Players from division one were hosts to the KO holders St Martins from division three Margaret Dignum got the Players off to a good start beating Tony Harding 21-7, 21-13. Dave Watton then pulled some points back taking a set at 21-12 from Janet Hunt and later beating Helen Pogmore 21-19, 21-19. Doug Young gained valuable points for the Saints from Dignum and Hunt losing 18 and 17. Tony Harding also weighed-in with some good scoring against Hunt and Pogmore to make the Players uneasy. In the last event of the evening Dignum gave the Players some hope beating Dave Watton 21-10 in the first set, but in the second set Dave managed to turn the tables with a 21-11 win to ensure that St Martins ran out winners by 46 points.

Himbleton A from division two were at home to Rainbow from division one in the final match in round two and as expected it was a close match. Although Himbleton's John Rowe took a set from Steve Mitchell and just lost to Trevor Simmons 22-20, Rainbow made steady progress and together with Wayne Chopping doing most of the damage for Rainbow.

However the result was always in doubt until the final event, when Wayne beat Malcolm Crane 10 and 12 to ensure that Rainbow went through to the semi-final stage by 25 points.

Pavilion Players (75) lost to St Martins (219) by 46 pts; Himbleton 'A' (246) lost to Rainbow (25) by 25 pts.

Semi-finals draw: Broadheath Belters v Rainbow, St Martins v St Georges Drag-ons, matches to be played by April 8.

YOUTH LEAGUE

JJs (Jamie Mills and Jack Carter) who lead clearly from the first half of the season, secured the title with a 4-1 win against closest rivals Jaguars and finally a 3-2 win over Falcons. The match against Jaguars (Peter Moonlight and Ben Glass) saw Jamie maintain his unbeaten singles record and brother Samuel playing as reserve taking a valuable 3 sets to 0 win over Ben Glass, but finding Peter Moonlight a little too experienced going down 11-7 in the 4th set. Jaguars battled hard but lost grip of the match and went down 4-1.

JJs finalised the season with a 3-2 win over Falcons, Jamie once again unbeaten and succeeding in a 100 per cent maximum of 26 wins through the season. JJ's victory gave them a 9 point clear lead to take the title, Jaguars got second spot with a 7 points lead over Stingrays.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS FINAL

Both teams from St George's CE primary school battled it out in the final. No 1 seeds Leon Campbell, Ryan Carter and Kambera Manir overawed No 2 seeds Naim Uddin, Ryan Scott and Nathan Teague with a 6-0 win.

From the start Leon, Ryan and Kambera looked determined to win the final and after the first couple of matches there was no turning back.

Trophies will be awarded on Finals night on April 24 at Christopher White-head School, Bromwich Road, Worcester commencing at 7pm.

Junior Trophies are expected to be awarded at approximately 8.30pm.
