FORMER RGS Worcester pupil Colin Scott has been selected to row for Cambridge in the second-string University Boat Race tomorrow.
Scott, aged 18 and from Malvern, will line up in the Goldie crew against Oxford's Isis boat in the race, run immediately before the main University Boat Race on the River Thames.
He took up rowing at RGS and has been competing at National and Junior International level for some years. He was a Junior Worlds competitor last year, finishing seventh in the coxless fours, and is a National Championships gold medallist (coxless four) as well as J18 National Schools pairs champion.
He is in his first year of a degree in Natural Sciences at Trinity Hall Cambridge.
Robert Gibson, also from Malvern, was Colin's coach at RGS. He will be watching the race with pride but with mixed emotions since he is a graduate from Oxford.
This year is significant in the history of the event as it is 175 years since the first Oxford and Cambridge race and the 2004 race will be the 150th race.
