WORCESTERSHIRE have cleared any member of the New Road staff of being responsible for the Kabir Ali affair which led to the club having to replay their controversial NatWest Trophy tie against Gloucestershire.

County members have been told of the internal investigation in a letter signed by chairman John Elliott.

Kabir's appearance in the first round of the competition for the Worcestershire Board Xl, after earlier appearing for the County in the Benson and Hedges Cup, was the cause of the breach of regulations. After winning the original, the County lost the replay which had been ordered by the ECB.

The letter to members says: "In its review, the Management Committee considered statements from all members of staff involved in the matter -- both of the Board and the club -- and concluded that no one person could be held responsible.

"Furthermore we were satisfied that all due care and diligence was exercised specifically to avoid any breach of regulations, even to the extent of requesting guidance from ECB about the eligibility of our young uncapped players and believing it to have been followed."
