THE origins of the Worcestershire landscape are to be made clearer with the launch of a new online map archive.

The resource, compiled over the past 12 years by researcher David Guyatt, catalogues the enclosure of large areas of land over the 18th and 19th Centuries and its change from large fields into smaller parcels of land.

The maps, taken from original drawings, show the land-holdings of the two centuries and are cross-referenced with details of ownership and tenancy of each field as well as its usage. The project has been funded by Worcester- shire County Council's e-government programme, together with funding from the Local Heritage Initiative.

The maps can be accessed at www.worcestershiremaps.org.uk.
