WORCESTERSHIRE Royals are today still catching their breath after last night's amazing seven-wicket win over Durham Dynamos which swept them four points clear at the top of the Norwich Union League Division Two table.

"It was a great game and we are absolutely delighted," said County skipper Graeme Hick, who played a starring role in his side's memorable floodlit triumph.

Hick made 87 and Vikram Solanki 91 not out after Paul Pollard got them off to a great start with a blistering 62, enabling Worcestershire to reach a victory target of 275-3 -- a record highest total by a team batting second in a day-night league clash.

Hero Hick said: "We sat down at the break, simplified the chase and made a game-plan for ourselves. Paul Pollard got us off to a great start and we were ahead of the rate which is what we wanted.

Partnership

"After that we just hoped and tried to make sure we didn't lose any wickets in the middle part of the innings. Obviously the job was to bat through so the partnership between myself and Vikram was the telling part."

Hick, however, is not getting carried away with Worcestershire's promotion charge.

He said: "There are a few games left. We have still got to play Durham again and there are a few more top-of-the-table clashes, so it's still quite exciting. But obviously this was a big game for us and we are delighted with the result."

Man-of-the-match Solanki said: "Things went well. Everything fell into place. The game got away from us early on, but we played to our plan and when we batted second things came off pretty well.

"It was just a matter of applying ourselves and we did do that right from the start. Paul Pollard got us off to a great start and then after that the partnership in the middle just saw us home."
