HAVE-a-go Worcestershire faced a challenging victory target in their Frizzell County Championship Division Two match against Glamorgan at New Road today.

They resumed this morning on 25-0, still needing a further 312 to come out on top.

Their task was made more difficult late yesterday when they allowed Glamorgan's last pair of Robert Croft (39) and Simon Jones (22no) to plunder a damaging 47 off 39 balls.

Their entertaining efforts took some of the shine off paceman Alamgir Sheriyar's 5-86 and some superb catches after Glamorgan had resumed their second innings 26 runs ahead on 38-0.

Once determined Sheriyar had broken a 67-run opening partnership between Steve James and David Hemp, Worcestershire began highlighting their fielding expertise with the unusual dismissal of Ian Thomas.

He fell to Sheriyar after skipper Graeme Hick let a slip chance spill from his hands only to react quickly enough to flick the ball back up off his right boot to complete the catch.

Nevertheless, by lunch Glamorgan were in a comfortable position at 121-2 with Hemp unbeaten on 56.

He managed just eight further runs, however, before being trapped leg before while attempting to sweep spinner Gareth Batty. He chalked up 13 fours off 156 balls.

Another 84 runs were pouched by Michael Powell and Adrian Dale before Hick's prowess as a slip fielding shine through again when he produced an excellent two-handed catch over his left shoulder to remove Dale for 39.

Diving Andy Bichel then conjured up another piece of magic to oust Powell with a blinding two-handed catch at mid-on off Batty. Powell's 59 contained seven fours off 149 balls.

Glamorgan were reduced to 238-5 by tea with Hick and his men anxious to speed up their headway.

But at 301-9 the never-say-die visitors began to give Worcestershire's attack a frustrating time.

Indeed, Croft and Jones produced one of the most entertaining passages of play and finished up with 12 boundaries between them.

That left New Road openers Anurag Singh and Stephen Peters to see out seven tricky overs last night and set up a potentially thrilling last day's play.
