NEW signing Stephen Peters was promoted to open the batting for Worcestershire in their Frizzell County Championship Division Two match against Northamptonshire which got under way at Northampton today.

The 23-year-old former Essex batsman took over from Philip Weston who was left out to enable spinner Matthew Rawnsley to be drafted into the side.

After winning the toss, the County soon sparked the scoreboard into action when Peters partnered Anurag Singh.

They faced the pace threat of Northants close-season capture Carl Greenidge - son of legendary West Indian opener Gordon - and Darren Cousins.

After four overs the County were 4-0 with Peters having scored all the runs.
