THE Women's World Day of Prayer service will be held this afternoon (Friday) at the Wyche Free church at 2pm. This year, the service has been prepared by the Christian women of Panama and its title is In Faith, Women Shape the Future. All are invited to come along.

Tonight (Friday), a race night will be held in the Village Hall at 7.30pm. This is in aid of SCOPE (formerly the Spastics Society). This charity works to ensure that people with cerebral palsy reach their full potential. Julie Exton will be taking part in an adventure trek in aid of SCOPE in May this year and her target for fundraising is £3,000 by the end of March.

Anyone who would like to sponsor a race (£50) or become a race horse owner for the night (£5), both publicised on the night, then give Julie a call on (01684) 541191. For tickets (adults £2, children £1) phone the number above or (01684) 540346. They are also available from John Goodwin Estate Agents.

On three consecutive Sundays in Lent, March 7, 14 and 21, following a short act of worship, there is going to be a talk and a time of discussion around the theme of Islam. These will be held at St James Church, Colwall at 6.30pm. The first meeting on March 7 will be an opportunity to talk with Roland Trafford-Roberts about Arab culture.

On Tuesday, there will be a pensions advice service in the Village Hall car park at 10am.

Colwall Players production of Mother Goose played to enthusiastic audiences over five performances last week. Mother Goose, with her five nursery rhyme children, befriend an escaped goose and then go on to rescue her from the giant's castle, after she has been taken there by the two big, bad wolves in exchange for Little Bo-Peep. These characters, together with Fairy Lethgia, a friendly spider, a scary monster of the moat, teddy bears and sheep, plus plenty of audience participation, all made for a very enjoyable production.

The choral evensong at St James Church, Colwall, with Hereford Police Male Choir, last Saturday evening raised £320 for church funds. This, together with two concerts held last summer, has raised £600. This is due to the hard work of organisers John and Barbara Dutton.
