WORCESTERSHIRE'S new pace ace Glenn McGrath grabbed 5-48 to help Australia beat India by an innings and 141 runs with two days to spare in the third and final Test in Sydney today.
McGrath was in deadly form to finish the match with a ten-wicket haul having also taken 5-48 in the first innings.
His efforts enabled the Aussies to win the series 3-0.
Even a defiant 167 from Venkat Laxman could not save the Indians, who --needing 403 to make Australia bat again -- were shot out for 261 in their second innings shortly before stumps.
Justin Langer hit 223 in Australia's 552 -5 declared, and Ricky Ponting made 141 not out.
But it was the eye-catching McGrath who got the ball rolling for the Aussies with a spell which earned him 3-68. It was a performance which made him the pick of the Australians bowlers although he was well back up by the rest of his side's on-song attack.
n New Zealand went 2-0 up in their one-day series against the West Indies thanks to an unbeaten half-century from their captain Stephen Fleming which led them to a seven-wicket win in Taupo.
