NOSTALGIC Droitwich residents are being invited to share their memories of Stourport Basin this weekend.

Wyre Forest District Council has teamed up with British Waterways to host a Memories Day at the French Place, Stourport-on-Severn High Street, tomorrow.

People from the town and further afield are being invited to share their anecdotes about the characters, boats and buildings of the basins.

The event, which runs from 10am until 4pm, is part of a project to create an interpretative map of the basins and the surrounding area, with illustrations by Bewdley artist Kate Wrigglesworth.

"This is a unique opportunity for all generations to look at the history of the Stourport Basin with fresh eyes," said Jill Fairbrother-Millis, Wyre Forest district councillor and secretary of Stourport Civic Society, which has been involved in the project.

"The town is on the brink of great changes to its environment due to the loss of substantial industries that will, hopefully, be replaced by housing and regeneration projects.

"We are all looking forward to seeing many of the stories immortalised as part of the series of collectable maps.
