TWO goals by Simon Marsh helped Evesham United on the way to end a run of three successive defeats when they saw off Bedworth United 3-0 in the Dr Martens Western Division.

It was a welcome return to form for Dave Busst's side who had looked out of sorts in their previous three games. But they were never put under pressure and strolled to their first win for a month.

United took a 14th minute lead. Craig Pountney was pushed to the ground in the area by Thomas Stevenson, and although Bedworth 'keeper Gary Hateley saved Pountney's spot kick, Marsh raced in to prod home the loose ball.

Marsh had a great chance to increase United's lead on the half hour but somehow headed wide from close in after Jermaine Clarke had carved out the opening following a blistering run and cross.

It was Clarke with a clinical finish a minute before half time who added a second for United. Skipper for the day, goalkeeper Tim Clarke, launched a huge clearance up field which the young striker latched onto before calmly lifting the ball over the advancing Hateley.

United kept the tempo going in the second half. Hateley was busy clawing out a Clarke shot and saving well from Pountney but he was beaten for a third time with 18 minutes to go.

Grant Pinkney was fouled on the left and from Craig Nicholls' in swinging free kick, Marsh out jumped the Bedworth defence to power home a header into the roof of the net.

The margin of victory could have been greater had late strikes from Clarke and Pinkney not flashed just wide.
