FOR the second week running Pershore Rugby Club suffered a narrow reversal, losing 27-20 at home to Leamington in Midalnds Three West (South).

Leamington drew first blood but Pershore's endeavours were rewarded when Levin Widmer outstretched the defence to touch down, Paul Sanders converted.

This was followed by some unsavoury moments from Leamington's players with Levin Widmer on the receiving end of a stamp on his head, which resulted in a hospital visit to have his head stitched up.

The extremely able Chris Bassett replaced him, only for prop Karl Evans to compress his neck into his body and he too left the field, replaced by Steve Brown.

This break in play affected Pershore, continuity, and once again a Leamington driving maul proved difficult to defend and the visitors went in 15-8 up at half time.

Pershore hit back through Gareth Lewis in the corner but the difficult conversion was narrowly missed.

Jeremy Richardson clawed another try back with Paul Sanders converting but Leamington sealed the game late on with an interception try.

* Luctonians walloped Luton 64-0 in Powergen Midlands One.

Luc's scored six tries in each half and had winger Pat Garrod, press ganged into goal kicking duties, been more successful with his conversion attempts the score could well have climbed into the 70's or 80's.

Luc's opened the scoring in the 14th. minute when from a tapped penalty centre Mark Panniers sliced through and this was quickly followed by a try from lock Paul Hart, after winger Ryan Henshaw had punched a hole up the middle.

Panniers pace took him through for a second try and slick handling saw Henshaw put clear for Luc's fourth. Before the break Luc's had added tries from scrum half and skipper Steve Saint and prop Anthony Marfell and with two first half conversions from Garrod Luc's turned around with a 34 point to nil lead.

The score continued to mount after the restart with tries from Lock Troy Looms and a second from Henshaw. Flanker Jabs Greasley bagged two tries in quick succession and fly half Dan Hinton added a brace of his own before the final whistle to leave Lucs in the hunt for at top three finish.
