THE Winter Alliance competitions are now underway at the Worcestershire Golf Club and the teams of four experience keen competition.

In the recent competition the past captains of the club have featured prominently, but unfortunately not prominently enough for the winners' enclosure.

The winners with the excellent score of 93 points, four points better than their closest rivals, was the team of Dave Farrell, David Harding, John Rooney and Neil Smith.

In second place was the team of Pete Sheward, David Bray, Gerald Bird Snr and Bob Marriot who scored 89 points.

The club captain, Simon Tinkler, decided to saturate his team with former club captains. Joined by Denis Chetwood, Stuart Bird and Mel Stocker, the club captain led his team to the very creditable score of 88 points to achieve third place.

In fourth place on 86 points was the ever consistent team of A team players Terry Lloyd and Stan Jones, ably supported by retired solicitor David Agnew and the improving John Daly.

In fifth place, with 85 points, was the team led by two former club captains, Jim Campbell and Terry Price and 'Taff' Morgan and Martin Lloyd.

The Ladies' Section has had a busy time recently with plenty of competitions played in some inclement weather.

In the 12 holes Stableford Competition, the improving April Wilding was in excellent form and ran out the winner with a score of 28 points. Esme Davy, was in good form and returned a score of 27 points, three points better than par, for second place.

The lady captain,Jayne Tromans, led her team to victory in the three ball Alliance Stableford Competition played over 12 holes. Ably supported by Jessica Paget and Cathy Harris, the lady captain's team won with 54 points. The runners up were the team of Sandra Schofield, Vanessa Chesterton and Jennifer Bunyan, on 51 points.

In the three-ball Alliance 12- hole Stableford Competition, played off one tenth of the combined handicaps, Ruth Scott, the present vice captain led her team into the winners enclosure. Ably supported by Liz Pool and Hazel Cartledge, Ruth's team returned a net score of 46.

In second place was the team of Jaquelin Tanner, Sally Agnew and Liz Evans, with a net 47.
