A gym user will be feeling the pull of a sponsored row as part of a day of fun at Malvern Splash tomorrow.

Lorraine Barson and her friends at Banana Fitness will be rowing 20,000 metres on a rowing machine in aid of the British Heart Foundation and the Malvern branch of the Worcestershire Association for the Blind.

Mrs Barson, who is registered partially-sighted, also has a chronic medical condition called fybromyalgia, which affects the connective tissue between her muscles.

"I'm making people with chronic conditions aware that they don't have to stop doing things," she said.

"Exercise keeps me motivated. There are lots of people out there with chronic conditions and they need to exercise to keep fit and motivated."

Members of Malvern Hills Gymnastics Club have sponsored Mrs Barson for the row, as she coaches at the club with her husband Brian.

However, she will also be collecting money tomorrow and is looking for volunteers to row some of the distance for her.

Anyone who can help, should just turn up at the Splash from 9.30am. The row will take three or four hours.

Between 9.30am and 4pm, Banana Fitness is holding an open day in conjunction with Mrs Barson's row. There will be tours of the gym, people can try free classes and 11-15 year olds will have the chance to try the gym for free for an hour, between 1pm and 4pm.
