FOLLOWING a six week lay-off due to postponements, Anchor Falcons finally made a welcome return to action on Sunday when they entertained old rivals Bringsty at Dysons.

However, a rather rusty display ended in defeat leaving the side bemoaning their bad luck with the weather.

In a tight first half chances were few and far between, although Shane Oseman was the busier of the two keepers, making two vital saves to keep the Falcons level. Will Hale, whose man of the match performance in midfield saved the Falcons losing by a bigger amount, made three crunching tackles but his endeavour failed to inspire his team mates.

At the other end a combination of stout defending by Bringsty and poor play build up restricted Anchor to a couple of long range efforts which troubled nothing but the vast area behind the goal.

After the break the Falcons had hoped to improve. But this was not the case, and the visitors opened the scoring on 54 minutes. A long ball over the top of the defence found the Bringsty forward, as he rounded Oseman his shot was cleared off the line by Jon Hale, only for the ball to be delivered back and be headed home past the stranded keeper.

The Falcons pressed, but a Dave Jenkinson shot was all they had to show for it as they continually failed to break through. Eventually Bringsty's pressure told when from a melee on the edge of the box the ball was dug out and volleyed home by the visitors to make it 2-0. The introduction of Russ Collins did little to revive Anchor's fortunes and the game petered out into the inevitable defeat the home side could hardly complain about.

On Sunday the Falcons entertain Seven Rangers looking for a better return than last Sunday. Players meet 9.45am at Dysons.
