A PLAN to build a new house at the rear of Old Street, Upton-upon-Severn, has been rejected.

Malvern Hills District Council turned down the application because of concerns about the effect on neighbours, the viability of a shop in a neighbouring listed building, parking and loss of storage space.

Applicant Tony Harold wanted to demolish an existing building at the rear of 32 Old Street and build a two-bedroom house with integral garage fronting on to Backfield Lane.

The plan was supported by Upton-upon-Severn Civic Society, which said it would have improved the street scene and reflected the historic development of that part of the town.
