PLANES, gliders, cars and bikes are heading for Upton's Fish Meadow to take part in a new summer show.

Wings and Wheels is a two-day celebration of hobbies relating to flying and vehicles. It takes place on Saturday and Sunday, July 10 and 11.

Organiser David Cotton said he decided to stage the event to raise money for the Earls Croome Church tower fund and the County Air Ambulance and also to reflect his own hobbies of flying light aircraft and driving vintage cars.

Up to 4,000 people a day are expected to visit the show.

Among the attractions are 'fly-ins' by a range of planes, microlights, helicopters and autogiros. There will be static displays of vintage and classic aircraft and gliders and the chance to take a ride in a microlight, as well as display of radio-controlled aircraft.

Staying closer to the ground, there will be a range of displays of classic and vintage cars, motorcycles and buses.

Several car manufacturers and owners' clubs will be in attendance, including the Morgan Owners' Club, MG Owners' Club and the TR Register. A range of military vehicles will also be on display.

An autojumble will supply parts for the enthusiast and children will be entertained by electric go-karts and a giant Scalextric set.

Mr Cotton said: "We're going to basically turn Fish Meadow into an airfield, it should be quite a fun event. Upton tends to be very social and cultural in terms of its shows. It could do with something that will spark a little more interest in a wider audience."

At the moment, the event is being viewed as a one-off. However, Mr Cotton said that if it was successful it could be repeated the following year.

Tickets will be £7 for adults and £3 for children, or £15 for a family. For more information, call 01684 592780 or visit www.wingsandwheels.org.
