PRINCE Edward is to visit Warndon for the opening of a new police post in Cranham Drive as part of his visit to Worcester next week.

The Earl of Wessex will be greeted by South Worcester Divisional Commander, Chief Supt Simon Adams, and Councillor John Cairns, chair of the South Worcestershire Community Policing Board.

During Tuesday morning's 30-minute visit, scheduled for 10.20am, PC Liz Northcott, beat manager for Warndon, will discuss policing issues and initiatives with the Royal guest before he is introduced to police officers, community support officers and residents.

HRH, the youngest of the Queen's four children, will unveil a plaque to mark the occasion.

The post at Warndon has been created to provide a point of contact for residents and police officers.

It was formerly a shop but has now been converted into a police office with public reception area.

Last week it was announced that, as part of his visit to the Faithful City, Prince Edward would officially open University College Worcester's new £1m digital arts centre.

Kidderminster College is also preparing for the Earl of Wessex, who is due to see first hand how successfully it delivers performing arts tuition.

After his trip to Worcester, Prince Edward will arrive in the carpet town's college on Tuesday afternoon, to tour the performance and production section, which covers subjects ranging from music technology to acting, as well as dance and film-making.

During his hour-long visit, the Earl, who has a personal interest in the performing arts, is scheduled to meet students and tutors at the new Market Street campus, where the college is located, after moving from Hoo Road last May.
