A PENSIONER and her disabled son had to be rescued when they ended up in London - miles from their intended destination - after they became trapped on their train by crowds of passengers when they tried to alight.

Eileen Alkin (right), aged 89, of Worcester, and her Down's syndrome son Bobby, 57, were left distraught when their journey from Foregate Station to visit Eileen's daughter Jackie, aged 59, in Slough ended in disaster.

The vulnerable duo got to Slough, but could not battle through the scores of people fighting to get on and off the train.

The doors closed and the next thing they knew they were lost and bewildered at London Paddington.

"It was quite frightening," said Mrs Alkin.

"We were struggling against the crowds but being the age I am, and having Bobby with me who is disabled, it was impossible to get off the train in time - we, literally, had only a minute before the train's carriage doors closed."

But they were rescued from their distress by kind-hearted train conductor, a Mr Mubarau, who contacted Slough station informing Jackie of the mishap, and waited with the pair for 30 minutes until the next train to Slough arrived.

Mr Mubarau then insisted in accompanying them back all the way to Slough - then refused the tip grateful Mrs Alkin tried to offer him to reward his kindness.

"I could not believe how much he went out of his way to help us," said Eileen.

"I don't know what would have happened to us if it weren't for him."

She has now written to Thames Trains, suggesting he be promoted.

A Thames Trains spokeswoman said: "We are sorry they were carried beyond their destination but are pleased a member of staff was able to help them in such a kind-hearted way."

And that was not the only act of kindness they received that weekend.

On their journey back to Worcester, Bobby befriended a couple on the train and regaled his tail of their troublesome trip to Slough.

The couple became concerned the pair would not make it safely to their Bevere home, so put them in a taxi at Shrub Hill station - paying for their fare.

Eileen wants the couple to get in touch so she can return their generosity.
