MACMILLAN Cancer Relief is appealing to townspeople to donate their old mobile phones and used toner cartridges to raise vital funds for cancer care services in the area.
The charity's local fund-raising manager Jon Rayner said: "Through our special arrangement with a recycling company, we're able to obtain a donation for each mobile phone or inkjet or toner cartridge donated.
"In 2003, we raised more than £1,000 in Worcestershire from things most people think are worthless."
He added: "The recycling company disposes of old phone batteries, which contain toxic heavy metals, safely and without harm to the environment.
"Recycled mobile phones can be used in developing countries where there is no comprehensive landline infrastructure and this helps them improve communication and, as a result, their economies.
"Everyone benefits by a simple cost-free contribution towards better care for people with cancer."
Any individual or company interested in taking part can call Kelly or Jon on 892540 or email kedwards@macmillan.org.uk
Toner bottles, print ribbons, laser cartridges and Epson Inkjet cartridges are non-recyclable and have no recycling value.
