MORE than 50 town children made a big splash when they took part in the Redditch Schools Aquathlon.
The event at Kingsley Sports Centre included youngsters from middle and high schools in Years 6, 7, 9 and 10.
It was the first schools event of its kind to be organised in Worcestershire and was run by Action Sport, Redditch Schools Sports Partnership, British Triathlon Association and Redditch Triathlon Club.
Its aim was to provide a taster triathlon event for children, to raise the profile of triathlon in Redditch and to help the club with its development of a junior section.
Sports development officer Joanne Bevan, who helped organise the aquathlon, said: "We're thrilled the event ran so smoothly and all the children who took part thoroughly enjoyed it."
Joanne Sharpe, manager of the School Sport Partnership, added: "Special thanks to all the staff and sixth form students from Kingsley College and Arrow Vale High School for their support on the day."
