A BROMSGROVE headteacher has made a formal complaint after what he claims was an unfair Ofsted report on his school.

John Graham, of Parkside Middle School, says he is dissatisfied with the way the report from the team of inspectors has been worded.

The inspectors from Independent School Inspection Services (ISIS) visited the Stourbridge Road school in November on behalf of the education watchdog Ofsted. Their report was published this week.

Mr Graham says the ISIS team unfairly highlighted negative aspects at the school, when there were many examples of excellent teaching and learning. "I would not be making a complaint if I thought this report was fair, but it is not," he said.

Mr Graham also said he was extremely dissatisfied with the conduct of the inspectors. "They flagrantly breached their code of conduct," he claimed. "For example, the inspectors failed to submit an overview of the school to me at least a week before their visit, detailing what they expected. But I did not receive this until three working days before the inspection and, when I did, it contained the facts and figures of other schools, not this one."

It is the same 12 inspectors, who deemed North Bromsgrove High and Catshill Middle schools to be failing schools. Both have been placed under special measures.

Although Parkside was said to provide a satisfactory standard of education overall, Mr Graham has issued a formal complaint to ISIS.

"With the full support of the county council, we have made a formal complaint to Ofsted. But for now, the findings have to be accepted."

The Advertiser/Messenger contacted ISIS and was referred to Ofsted. An Ofsted spokeswoman said she was unable to comment.
