HEAVEN is a halfpipe according to the youngsters who entered a skateboard park design competition.

it real: Daniel Babbington, Steve Vranic, Sam Lee, Julie Pitts and Nic Thomas, who are campaigning for their own skatepark.

As part of the campaign to build a skatepark in Catshill, local youngsters were invited to come up with their own designs.

Nic Thomas caught the eye of the judges with his entry, which included a skate bowl and work covering health and safety and finance. Nic's design was placed first.

Daniel Babbington clinched second with his design, which included a dome and covered maintenance issues.

There were lots of entries from girls and Samantha Lee came third with her scheme, which considered different user ability.

It is hoped that the competition will help focus interest and support for a skatepark in Catshill.

Local skaters have formed a group called UNI SK8 to campaign for the site. It is hoped that the final design will incorporate features from the competition.

The skaters are now looking at ways of funding the project, including Lottery cash.
