A FATHER-of-one died from a single stab wound to the stomach in his Rubery flat.

Twenty-eight-year-old Patrick Peters was found dead in his flat above shops in New Road in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police were called to the flat above Tino's Pizzas just after midnight.

They recovered a knife and a man was arrested at the scene, on suspicion of murder.

He is being held at Redditch Police Station.

Yesterday the court granted the police with an extension of a further 24 hours to interview the arrested man.

The father and brother of Mr Peter's were believed to have formally identified the body on Monday afternoon.

Later, a post mortem examination revealed he had died of a single stab wound to the abdomen.

Mr Peters was single - with one son.

Detective Inspector Jim Baker, of West Mercia police, said: "We will be carrying out house-to-house enquiries and talking to nearby shopkeepers to see if they have any information that will help with our investigation.

"We will also be examining close circuit television from nearby locations, and a full search and forensic examination of the property is being carried out."
