'TAYLOR tops' is still the situattion as Alvechurch matchman Peter Taylor continued his good run on Tuesday at the latest round of the Starlets Veterans Individual Winter League at Woodland View.

Pole fishing maggots and pinkies at Deans pool peg 47 he took a 24-12-0 catch of small carp. Mick Scott (Bewdley) was second with 20-4-0, while third place went to lady angler Pat Kavanagh (Stourbridge) with 17-2-0. Peter now leads the league with 58 points, Bill Drew 51, and Mick Taylor 33.

On Wednesday the Astwood Fisheries Bluebell pool open was won by Rob Francis (Spa MG) with a waggler and maggot catch of 22-1-0 from peg five. Second Stuart Glover (Catshill WMC) 15-8-0, third John Halfpenny (Astwood) 10-11-8.

Thursday saw the Northfield Starlets Veterans at Moorlands Farm and it was club secretary Mick Taylor (Northfield) who showed the way by pole fishing maggots and pinkies at Bank pool peg 23 for five carp and two bream to scale in at 14-13-0, Mike Millinchip (Kidderminster) followed with 12-6-0 from Moors pool peg one, third was Brian Hill (Stourport) 12-0-0.

Saturday saw round two of the Redditch Federation teams of four Winter League, held on the Stratford canal at Earlswood. Taking the top individual honours was Carl Smith (Middy B) who pole fished bloodworm and joker at peg 38 by the black pipe for a bonus seven pound pike plus a few tiny perch for a grand total of 8-3-10. Second placed Phil Harrow (Colebrook Bowens) had 3-2-10 of roach, third Ted Yearby (Sensas Dams & Lock Red) 3-1-0.

Middy B were the day's winners with 35 points, Sensas Dams & Lock Gold 33, Colebrook Bowens 32. Overall league leaders are Sensas Dams & Lock Gold with three points, Middy B four, Middy A seven.

The fourth round of the Garbolino Silver Fish League was held on Woodland View's Arles, Deans and High pools. Taking a close individual verdict was Scott Poynton (Broad Acres) who feeder fished maggots at Deans peg nine for 19-4-0. Alan Westmecote (Daiwa Dorking Black) was second with 19-2-0, third Nigel Bull (Allstars) 18-14-0. Daiwa Dorking Black led the day's points table with 14, Allstars 15, Daiwa Dorking Red 17. Daiwa Dorking Black also lead the league with 57 points, Daiwa Dorking Red 79, Garbolino Bald Eagles 87.

The Moorlands Farm Open saw a nice little earner for winner Pete Whitehouse (Mosella Strike) when he drew bonus peg seven on the Moors pool. His pole and corn catch of 32-0-0 was worth £500. Runner-up Bob Marklew (Walsall) had 24-14-0, third Steve Harris (Mosellla Strike) 23-0-0.

Moorlands Farm's Sunday open went to Richard Massey (Myself MG) by waggler fishing corn at Meadow pool peg 16 for 26-12-0, second Colin Pace (Bilston) 23-8-0, third Neil McKinnon (Shakespeare) 22-7-0.

Local Teams 100 A.C., Rexel A.C. and Swan A.C. were head-to-head in a preliminary round of the Nationwide Angling Times, Van Den Eynde Super Cup on the Birmingham-Worcester Canal in Worcester town centre. Organising team of ten, Swan AC, came unstuck on their home water and came third with 16 points. 100 A.C. came a close second with 21 to winners Rexel with 22. Rexel members also took the top three individual places headed by Droitwich hotrod Terry Morris and again it was one of those bonus pike of almost four pounds taken with pole and caster from peg 166 together with a few tiddlers for a 4-5-4 total, second Rick Moseley 2-4-3, third Mick Duffy 2-3-6.

At Astwood Fisheries the Bluebell and Smokey Joe's pools open was won by Peter Bailey (Droitwich Angling Centre) by pole fishing corn at Smokey Joe's peg 38 for 35-1-0, second Trevor Hodges (Reservoir Dogs) 23-8-0, third Terry Frowen (Astwood) 20-5-0.
