Redditch 20

Kings Norton 27

A DERBY-day thriller at Bromsgrove Road ended with Kings Norton taking the all the spoils as Norton prop Richard Revell ran in a hatrick of tries.

Redditch were first to score after just three minutes as Will Wilson kicked over the first of his five penalties to give the home side a 3-0 lead.

But the strong Kings Norton pack came back and grabbed a penalty try 15 minutes later, converted by skipper Pete May, before the riveting Revell show started as he went over twice before half time.

Not to be outdone, Wilson kicked over another penalty for Redditch to make the score a respectable 6-19 at the break.

In the second period, Redditch knew they needed to attack -- and did -- forcing Kings Norton to lose their cool by conceding two more penalties taken by Wilson.

But just as the pressure was beginning to tell on the visitors, Revell ran over with his third try of the game to extend his teams lead to 15 points.

Redditch kept their heads and were rewarded in the 35th minute when some fine play between Hodgkins and Davies resulted in Davies going through for an unconverted try.

And in the 42nd minute, Redditch were awarded a penalty which Wilson kicked to make the score 20-27, with an exciting three minutes to play. But there was not enough time as Redditch lost possession to the Kings pack.

Kings Norton completed a hat trick of victories over Redditch as the 2nds won 17-6 and the 3rds scored 54 pts without reply.
