DEAR EDITOR - I am dismayed to read in the Advertiser (Trees are due for the chop - January 21) that the unusual white poplar trees on the Safeway roundabout are to be felled in February. Can I urge the Highways Partnership Unit to re think such a drastic policy? They are truly beautiful trees with their flickering silver leaves and must have been there long before the houses.
Surely the householders who complain that the roots get in the way of their lawns and patios could think of a gardening solution to incorporate the new trees that the suckers produce? Why not try bark chip borders and patios made of small bricks?
Could you consult a garden centre for ideas? And does it matter if the garden ground is uneven?
Those trees are far more attractive than flat lawns and paved patios. Please spare such beautiful trees - we do not have many left in Bromsgrove now!
