DEAR EDITOR -- I am still smarting from the knowledge that through general taxation I contributed to the refurbishment of Clarence House.

It is nothing less than staggering that we, the general public who paid for the work, are then charged should we wish to visit, paying an outrageous sum to walk round a few of the many refurbished rooms.

The monumental arrogance of our governing classes and the House of Windsor in particular is nothing short of scandalous.

Did we (and I strongly suspect we did) make a contribution in one way or another to Prince Harry's 21st birthday celebration?

One can go on, however I would like to make it absolutely clear that I have absolutely no wish to contribute via taxation to university education, turning out a batch of rapacious lawyers, dodgy accountants, second-rate politicians etc. All of them very ready and eager to repay our beneficence by charging us incredible fees irrespective of the ability to pay. The aged, the infirm, the bereaved - no mercy, no one spared.
