DEAR EDITOR - Reading of Wychavon's annual cash awards to clubs and organisations, I see that Droitwich is again stitched up by Evesham and Pershore in as much as 12 nominations in Evesham benefited, 12 in Pershore and just six in Droitwich.

Of these six, Droitwich Tennis Club had a massive £15,000. They are not even in the phone book and few people in Droitwich have heard of them. Then there is Droitwich Concert Club - who are they?

Over many years the Droitwich Boxing Club has brought many people to the town and made Droitwich known nationally and internationally, yet they have never received anything and are forced to train in a dilapidated glorified shed.

Other organisations such as the ATC and Army Cadets get the 'bums rush' when it comes to handouts. It begs the question why?

When Droitwich was practically hijacked into joining Evesham and Pershore, it was on the understanding that it would be as equal partners. But Evesham and Pershore have always sided with each other to keep Droitwich down.

A typical example is Evesham has a Cottage Hospital, so does Pershore - who are also getting a brand new state of the art hospital built?

Droitwich, whose whole population must now exceed Pershore's, has nothing. Police patrol Evesham and Pershore, Droitwich has none. Traffic wardens are in Evesham and Pershore, Droitwich has none. This list goes on.

Wychavon closed the adventure playground in Droitwich for lack of funding. Now they have awarded Evesham £2,000 for their adventure playground - sound familiar?

It is high time that people in Droitwich knew why organisations and groups are given cash awards and why other groups are refused. It is high time our councillors started sticking up for Droitwich. Our High Street is a national disgrace and a joke, an accident black spot.

What is good for Evesham and Pershore should be the same for Droitwich. So come on - let's have some equality.

P Duffy
