DEAR EDITOR - At the next District and County Elections should it not be compulsory for those putting themselves forward to publish their mandate?

I have no recollection of any of the councillors saying if you ever elect me I will do my very best to take as much money as possible from you, even though it may even be bending the law, instead of what we can do to improve efficiency and reduce rates.

I refer to the 30mph speed limit over Romsley, which I understand is under investigation. It beggars belief that it starts way down on the south side of the hill one mile from the Swallows Nest. There can be no justification or valid reason for this, I do not recall hearing of a serious accident.

There can be only one reason, a milk cow to extract more money from ratepayers, because 1,000 x £60 = £60,000!

Our generous Bromsgrove District Council then say to themselves what is the next stupid action we can take? Ah yes - if we site the waste disposal tip at Madeley, Romsley, it will be five or seven miles for residents living on the south side of Bromsgrove and three to five miles for all others, but extremely convenient for the residents of Halesowen, Dudley, Blackheath, Rowley Regis, Sandwell and Quinton.

It would not take a rocket scientist to work out how much refuse is taken in each day - an impossible amount to have come from its residents. This land fill tip is a very valuable commodity which we are giving away because when full, disposal will have to be by one of the many other very expensive methods which will then fall on Bromsgrove ratepayers.

Why do our council not think like Dudley Council. Then look at what they were elected to do - cut out unnecessary waste and duplicated jobs and those of not any conceivable use, because there are many good management could identify.

L D Evans
