A NEW play, Forward, inspired by the statue of the same name, opens at The Door at Birmingham's REP on February 5.

The debut play by Robert Warrington, a graduate MA of Playwriting Studies at Birmingham University, concerns the Raymond Mason statue, which stood outside the theatre until it was destroyed by arson last year.

Described as "a riotously original black comedy with shades of The Royle Family, The Simpsons and Rab C Nesbit", Forward tells the story of one working class Birmingham family and their attempts to come to terms with the past, present and future.

Directed by Natalie Wilson, the play stars Joanne Moseley as Roxy.

Recently nominated for Newcomer of the Year for her role in the REP's production Of Mice And Men, she has appeared on television's Peak Practice and Doctors.

The cast also includes Robin Pirongs, Ged McKenna, Catherine Skinner, Joseph Raishbrook, Angela Bain and Robert Harrison.

The play, which runs until February 28, contains strong language and is recommended for ages 16 and over.
