Coventry Marconi 1

FECKENHAM boss Lee Adams believed Marconi deserved their late equaliser after his side missed golden opportunities to wrap up a Midland Combination Premier victory on Saturday.

Striker Brian Powell fired The Millers into a two-minute lead but then saw his effort saved by the home 'keeper moments later. Kevin Leggatt then headed wide to give Marconi the impetus to stage a fightback.

"They're a really good, young side and after our misses they really started to play," said Adams. "They were just the better team for periods of the match, simple as that. Our 'keeper Dave Gorton was forced to make a good three or four decent saves and they kept piling men forward."

Mark Smith finally struck for the home side with 15 minutes left on the clock with Adams admitting: "Sometimes in football you just have to hold your hand up and say the other team played well and deserved their point. We were left wonting at times which disappointed me.

"We beat them 2-1 at home earlier in the season and I felt we deserved it that day which upset them a bit but Saturday was different."

Adams and his players, though, will get further chances to pit their wits against their plucky opponents as the two teams meet in the two-legged League Cup semi-final next month.

Meanwhile, Dave Unit is recovering from a hamstring and calf injuries while Simon Redhead and Jon Oliver should be available again for the home league clash with West Midlands Police on Saturday (2.45pm).
