Redditch United 0

Taunton Town 0

CHANCES were few and far between as the Reds looked to get back to winning ways at the Valley on Saturday.

And with three minutes left on the clock, Richard Burgess thought he'd given United the vital winning goal against a Taunton side struggling near the foot of the table.

Burgess toe-poked home a Mark Taylor pass on 87 minutes as the Reds piled on the pressure but the man in black ruled the effort offside to the Valley's disappointment.

Long-time absentee Matt Gardiner was welcomed back to the Reds starting line up and played a dominant 90 minutes which his gaffer was more than happy with.

Brown said: "I was very happy with the result in the end - we needed to get back to basics although I thought we were the better team.

"We didn't concede - that's what was really important for us. We've started a fresh and we can now go on another unbeaten run."

He added: "I thought we looked nervous in the first half but dominated the second - especially the last 20 minutes."

But with the offside incident still fresh in the mind, Brown admitted he did argue the point with referee Lee Hodgson after the game.

He said: "I had a chat to the ref but he was adamant that there was no defenders on the line marking the posts." Thankfully, none of the chasing teams took advantage as second-placed Rugby could only manage a draw away at Sutton Coldfield and Cirencester's game at Cinderford was postponed.
