Bromsgrove Rovers Reserves 4

Midland Combination Reserve Division

DETERMINED Rovers set about Chasetown with a renewed energy and a revamped playing system.

The tone of the match was set in the first minute when How, Lennon and Lloyd combined to give Ruck the chance to shoot from close range.

Bromsgrove's early pressure caused Chasetown to panic and concede three consectutive corners from which Matt Inniss just missed the opening goal by heading over.

The breakthrough came on 11 minutes when Tompkins slotted home a cross.

Bromsgrove were well on top and Chasetown could not cope with the pressure. On 22 minutes Smith surged from the back and kept going. He slipped the ball to Tompkins who returned for him to continue into the area and pass the ball into the net beyond the diving keeper.

Surprisingly Chasetown responded on the half-hour. Midfielder Robbins progressed to within 25 yards and left unchallenged he sent in a shot which should have been dealt with but a swerve left Day grasping only air as it entered the net.

Normal service was soon resumed and Chasetown were forced to attend to defensive duties.

Fifteen minutesd into the second half Inniss, Whyte and Lennon worked together to allow Lennon the opportunity to score the third goal.

The fourth came when Smith freed Tomkins down the left and he saw his shot go in off the post.

Unfortunately just a short while after that Tomkins was sent off for kicking out at an opponent.

Bromsgrove played out the remaining 30 minutes with ten men but were not troubled.

There were good performances from Nelson, Gallagher and Smith at the back, fine distribution by How and Lloyd in the centre of midfield and good running by the wide midfielders, Whyte and Ruck.
