A PROVISIONAL driving licence holder who drove his friend's car after she blacked out was fined £150 for having no insurance or L plates.

Matthew Moverley, from Amber Gate, City Walls Road, Worcester, was enjoying a night out in the city's Tramps nightclub when a friend began to feel ill.

Moverley helped her outside where she later passed out and spent 45 minutes under observation in an ambulance.

After being released by paramedics the same evening she discovered the rear window of her Peugeot 206 had been shattered and glass was all over her car.

"She had a traumatic night and asked me if I would drive and park the car somewhere it would be safe overnight," said Moverley, defending himself in Worcester Magistrates Court yesterday.

"I'm very sorry - I shouldn't have done it - but she was very distressed and in no fit state to drive."

The 22-year-old was spotted driving the car on Foregate Street and stopped by a police officer at 11.50pm on Friday, October 3.

He yesterday admitted one charge of driving without insurance and a second of driving not in accordance with his licence - without learner plates.

Magistrates said they had sympathy with his position, but they could not ignore his actions.

Moverley was fined a total of £150, ordered to pay costs of £35 and had six points added to his licence.
