FRIENDS and family of the late David Tilt paid respect to the popular toastmaster at his funeral yesterday.

The service of the much-loved Windsor Road resident was held at Salwarpe Church, off Copcut Lane, yesterday morning.

The church was packed full of people wishing to pay their last respects to the colourful character who had lit up so many lives.

Town councillor Terry Spencer attended the service.

"Even though I had only known David for five years, during that time I must say he was a true gentleman and a great friend and helped me out a great deal when I served as town mayor," he said.

"He was one of Droitwich's most colourful characters and will be greatly missed at civil ceremonies."

Coun Spencer added: "It was a lovely service. The church was full and some people were standing. You really have to feel for the family at this time and our thoughts go out to his wife, Tricia."

The 73-year-old Droitwich resident died peacefully at Edgbaston Priory Hospital on Thursday, January 15.

David had officiated at many prestigious functions, including weddings and charity balls and had worked in the UK and overseas as a professional toastmaster for the past 16-and-a-half years.
